Memorial to Sensei Gary Diven (1958-2010) - Always in our Hearts
Sensei Diven was our Co-Founder of our Dojo and Chief Instructor for the Kids Class from the beginning until his passing on December 21, 2010. Sensei Diven began studying Isshinryu in 1995, received his Sho-Dan on February 27, 1999 and was promoted to Go-Dan on April 26, 2006 by Grandmaster George Iberl.
He loved Isshinryu because it is "great for a big man or even if you're not so big." Sensei Diven wanted people to know this - "there is too much to tell - come and see it and experience Isshinryu for yourself - YOU'LL LOVE IT!"
Sensei Diven was a mentor, a good friend, and a brother to many in our dojo. Our hearts broke when we heard that he was gone. His passing has left an empty spot that will be impossible to fill. As our remaining Sensei struggle to continue what he has begun - we ask that all students, regardless of rank, always remember him with honor and respect, treasure the memories of good times and conversations, and train as if he was right there pushing you to do your best. Words never say enough - we will always miss you.
